I'm very pleased so far.All Rights Reserved. Keep in mind that I just purchased it last month, but the results thus far are very promising. Must admit, compared to some other forums I have joined in the past, this one is friendly. I don't think you will be disappointed in either a VG1 or VG2. Sean Boburk As well as my Howa, which is pretty much a VG1. Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. Don't shy away from a good deal on a "close out special" S1 Vanguard. You get that same test fired assurance in the RC models, but you're getting a sub-1" shooter in the plain S2s anyway. Many of the S1 Vanguards were able to shoot sub-1" groups with no modifications to the trigger or the receiver bedding. Just what I needed to know, thanks! The sub-MOA was what steered my attention to the S2 in the first place. There may be other differences that I'm no aware of, but these are the most obvious ones. Finally, the S1 has a single stage trigger vs the 2 stage trigger of the S2. The S1 has a 2 position safety, vs the S2 which has a 3 position safety, which allows unloading with the safety on. The S2 synthetic stock is gray in color with the black grip panels. I personally haven't gotten to check out an S2 yet, but hope to soon. The stocks look to be quite a bit different in feel, with the griptonite panels on the S2. The new S2 has a bead blast matte finish on the bluing vs the spun finish blue on mine.

I own a series 1 vanguard synthetic in winchester. Is there an easy was to tell the two apart? There are several differences between the series 1 vanguard and the series 2. I have noticed however, there are still a lot of "pre-series 2" rifles out there for sale.
